When this story first broke, a large number of people were immediately affected by it, including us. Over time, contact was first made with Chaplain Colonel Fischer at Ft. Lewis, who responded supportively to our requests for help in assisting these children. In very short order, this led to a contact with Maj. Grady of Civilian Affairs in Iraq, who immediately understood the spirit behind this mission. He outlined many of the challenges for such an endeavor, including getting cash into Iraq, and the real dangers of handing large sums of money to a single family in an impoverished nation. But he did not stop there, and through his help, we are taking the steps on our own to get these funds to the family. Since that time, we have had the honor to discuss this issue with Chris Hondros, the photographer who took the pictures, some of our Christian friends at WorldVision, and reporters at large. While none of these organizations are directly associated with the fundraising efforts of this mission, we have been blessed to gain non-profit fund management assistance from The Peninsula Anglican Fellowship, a Christian Member of the Anglican Communion in Poulsbo, Washington. How Funds Will Be UsedAs funds continue to be collected, we will deliver 100% of them where needed by the family (e.g. medical expenses, housing payments, food, water) to secured accounts in Iraq for safe distribution to the family and community; the Mead Group, Inc. is donating all administrative costs for this fund, so full proceeds from donations will reach the family and their community. Given an adequate amount of funds, we will be able to secure an apartment or house for the Hassans, and then work with them specifically to develop a plan of community rebuilding from these resources. This is a goal we have and are seeing come to fruition. How Funds Will Be CollectedWe are working closely with the Peninsula Anglican Fellowship [501(c)(3) Non-Profit Tax-ID# 20-1769406] to gather these funds under a non-profit missionary outreach program. Working with this organization allows us to register your donation as a non-profit charitable donation, for which you will receive a receipt for tax purposes. Administration costs will be handled by the Mead Group, Inc. at no cost to the fund, all time and effort will be donated by this Christian organization. So 100% of your donation will make it to Iraq. While funds are being collected with the aid of local Christians, we feel we are being directed to build bridges to Imams in a respectful and non-proselytizing fashion. We are all God's children, and this work is specifically focused on one of God's greatest messages, that out of the deepest darkness, He can draw new light. Please direct questions to: |
